hm, after reading tai tai's post abt the paris hilton controversy, hee, i do think i have some of my own thoughts too.. but my stand on it is different from tai tai's stand.

to me, i really felt that it was bizzare that the sheriff lee bara(?? if i got the name wrong, pls pardon me) had decided to send her back to her home to serve the rest of her sentence just due to an unspecified medical condition when she had only been there for about then 3 days?? i mean, if another LA citizen who gives the same type of reason so as to be able to be on home probation, i think the sheriffs won't even bat an eyelid.. that's why i feel that the judge's decision to throw her back to jail to serve out the rest of her term for the full 40 days, not a day less is a superb one. the final decision made, really proved that no one can be above the law, whether you are filthy rich or not.

something that the judge said also makes alot of sense. if paris hilton does have a medical condition, she could get a medical checkup in one of the jail's medical facilities. anyway, she have been given special treatment already, such as having her own cell and all.. the original sentence for her was abt 45, 46 days?? and it was reported that if she displays good behaviour, she can serve abt 23 days in jail, and then the rest on home probation. yet now, due to her actions, she had to served it in jail for a full 40 days..

i do understand that all the unwanted attention that she received did cause her stress but then, since she is a socialite, she should have been accustomed to all that. the news today also hinted that that sheriff lee had received financial donations from paris's father... how true is that, i'm not very sure.

on channel's eight news where it also gave a report about this case. a female American black was saying that her boyfriend was also caught drink driving, and he was sentenced to about 4 months jail. as you can understand, she was rather furious about this unfair treatment that paris hilton got. so why does it seemed as though the celebrities and the wealthy receive preferential treatment where the rest of the ppl don't get?? is this really how the world works??

in spore, christoper lee received a month of jail sentence for drink driving. and he didn't whine about it. in fact, i think that the lawyers had insisted on appealing for a heavier sentence or insisted on pressing another charge about him not stopping the car when he had hit the victim.

if paris hilton was tried in our courts, how different would the verdict be? or would it be the same?? she must have been too used in getting her way out of trouble and thats why, she was so traumatised and stunned by the judge's final decision. the evening news had reported that she will giving up the chance to appeal against her sentence. some may feel that it is because she had really reflected about her actions, therefore feeling remorse, will dutifully serve out her sentence. but wat if you take a skeptical view?? wat if, this particular decision was becasue their lawyers knew that amid such controversies and the negative reactions from the LA citizens, their chances of succeeding in an appeal would be slim?? worse, it might convinced the judge, whether it would be a different one, to pass on a heavier sentence?? i mean, thats probable.. haha..

but anyway, don't drive if you drink, how long must it take for such a simple msg to sink into ppl's brains?? across the continents, we keep getting reports on how ppl, not just celebs who drunk drive, and later keep harping on how remorseful they feel... its bit stupid isn't it..
